A peek into the vault...and the future 💥🗝️

Projects Old and New (and butterflies too!)

Hello, hello Reader!!

The second semester is in full swing for all us students, which means being insanely busy (heh heh) and also the fact it's exactly seven days till I get the wrap on whether or not I got accepted into the middle-grade anthology. 🤪

But I don't want to just lie around twiddling my fingers before I can get you a proper announcement (for which I promise I will send out a quick email as soon as it comes out).

Therefore, I'm going to take you on an adventure into the vaults of my writer brain (mostly the nice parts, don't worry 💀) as well as some behind-the-scenes updates on Mountain of Secrets, because I know you haven't heard much about it in a while.

⚔️ A forgotten tale ⚔️

If you were one of my Grow Mag fam, you probably remember the Charlie Chipmunk story I published as a serial story back in 2023 (for those who weren't, it was basically a novella from the POV of a chipmunk on Noah's Ark 🐿️)

...but did you know there was another series I was working on around the same time?

In fact, an ambitious epic fantasy about three teens and the magical crystal that shattered them and their world apart, and may be the only chance to bring it back together?

Here's a little profile I made back then for the main character, Shana Clifton:

(okay, I guess, it's not THAT little)

Honestly, I still kinda think I had some good things going there, but it turned out the level of complexity of the story, not to mention the controversial theme of racial prejudice, were far above my 12-year-old level at the time 😂

Anddd there was no way I could figure out a satisfying ending for this multi-book series at the time, with my slight knowledge of story structure.

I ended up with a huge creative block and the project degraded into simply fiddling around with character face claims and trying to decide on which map I wanted for the country.

All the time I spent on it wasn't wasted though...working on that as well as revising the old copy of Mountain of Secrets made me realize how much I loved writing, and how much I needed to learn.

Thus, one reason I reached out to my amazing friend Jessica to find out more about the writing workshop she was a part of. 📚

Someday, when I've got a bit more experience under my belt, I hope to revisit the world and at least write a little prequel short story...

🔥Who said Wild Things??🔥

*breaks down in laughter* indeed I have an announcement to make!! I've changed the title of Mountain of Secrets to Wild Things...

  1. to separate it from the old story, which is not at ALL the same thing, and
  2. it just sounds cooler and fits the story *shrugs* do you agree? 😂

I also have a gorgeous cover I created to go along with the new title!

drumroll please...

TADAAAA!!!!

I was going for an urban fantasy-meets-thriller look, so hopefully I did alright hehe

I must confess, progress on outlining has been slow the last few weeks due to me focusing on a small project for a friend that I'm hoping to complete before my birthday at the end of year, just so, y'know, I can have finished another project before I turn 16.

(Like what am I really that old??? 😂)

Not to mention Mountain of Secrets is most likely going to take me the rest of the year to get done properly.

I have been doing some epic worldbuilding for it tho...turns out my protagonist Reagan isn't the only girl on earth with strange magic powers...

Now, even more fun stuff!!! I have the blurb to share, and next month you're getting an intriguing 100-word snippet from the first chapter 😁

OHHHH AND DID I MENTION A FELLOW WRITER LITERALLY WROTE A SONG FOR IT??? Imma have to share that in future lol 🎶

A story of insanity, butterflies, and many other things that really aren't supposed to exist....
Raegan Harley was born a survivor. At the age of 13, she’s already got three things down on her bucket list; nearly dying in a fire that burned down her entire neighborhood, escaping a mysterious stalker, and navigating the web of cutthroats at the school her teenage brother rules. It didn’t take her long to learn that the only way to stay alive was to laugh the loudest, play the hardest, and never EVER let anyone get close enough for her to hurt them.
Because tbh, everything was her fault in the first place.
Finally, her parents notice something’s not quite right and ship her and her brother Julian off to what’s supposed to be their grandparents; but when it turns out to be a ticket to literal nowhere, aka a mysterious region of magic and monsters that isn’t supposed to exist, Reagan is forced to reconsider everything she ever knew about the world—and herself.
The sibling relationship and dangerous magic of Frozen meets the outdoor survival elements of Hatchet and the tone of The Silver Crown.

I hope y'all are as stoked for this story as I am!!!

Finally, I created a little blog/website where you can catch up on past emails and also (eventually) links to Amazon, books, merch, and all that stuff! I'll be adding the link at the bottom of each email, but here it is if you'd like to check it out now!

That's all for this month...please try and survive the hectic rest of the month for me, alright?? 🥰

Hopefully the next email will contain much excited screaming 😂

Bye special peeps!!!

-Love, Sophia
